Christ or Christianity: Who do You Believe?
By Kevin A. Lehmann on in Christian Theology
Is the “temple” a brick and mortar building or Jesus Christ himself?
Did Jesus not say “Destroy this temple and I will raise it up again in three days?” Was Herod’s temple raised again in three days after its destruction in A.D.70? Who was in fact raised three days after being destroyed?
If your church claims that the heavens and earth will pass away, why then are we not under the law and acknowledging the weekly and annual sabbaths? Remember what Christ said “For verily I say unto you, till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.”
Between the food laws, weekly sacrifices and annual sabbaths alone, there is a lot of law to be fufilled. And that doesn’t take into account all 613 mitvahs. Does your church have you practicing those as well?
Is a 10% tithe of your income to your “church” part of the law? Moreover is that command anywhere to be found in the New Testament?
Is Daniel’s last week of his 70 weeks prophecy (last 7 years of the 490 years) really not fulfilled? Why would the first 69 weeks (483 years) be fulfilled, but suddenly have a 2000 year gap (and counting) between the 69th and 70th week? Had the 70th week been sequentially fulfilled like the first 69 weeks, in what event would it have culminated?
Does he or she believe that Hell is an everlasting place of punishment for all of eternity? Does he know the origin of the word “Hell? How does he distinguish it from Sheol and Hades? How about Gehenna or the Lake of Fire? Is it a literal, eternal flame where unbelievers will cook for eternity? Does he understand the difference between metaphorical, symbolic and allegorical interpretation vs literal interpretation?
Why would Christ lie to his own people at the Olivet Discourse about the impending destruction of Jerusalem and the temple system and the timing of the parousia (his second coming)? Why would Christ rebuke Peter for asking him why John would be alive upon his second coming and not Peter himself? Is John actually a 2000 year old man wandering around the island of Patmos today?
C.S. Lewis was perplexed over Christ making just one mistake — the specific timing of his second advent? As a believer, do you really think Christ made a mistake?
Does Isaiah 11 refer to literal lions, lambs, children and cobras? Will children literally play near a literal Viper’s nest? Is there a literal future utopian thousand year kingdom on earth where all animals will peacefully coexist as Christ reigns in temporal form from a newly rebuilt temple atop Mt. Zion in Jerusalem?
Has your pastor studied Hebraic and Greek figures of speech, biblical hermeneutics and exegesis? Does he know the fundamental rules of hermeneutical and exegetical interpretation?
Of the more than 100 English translations of the Bible, ask him which one is correct. How about the Apocrypha? Why is it cannonized in only the Catholic Bible and not the Protestant Bible? Why do some Protestant Bibles have 1 John 5:7, but some don’t? Should we read King James (Textus Receptus) or more modern translations like the NIV and 1995 NASB (Nestle-Aland Novum Testamentum Graece)? Which scrolls are more accurate — Alexandrian or Byzantine era?
Ask him if Luke 16 is proof positive of literal people (Lazarus and the rich man) and a literal fiery furnace or if it’s a parable. How about the preceding and proceeding chapters — Are they parables or not?
Ask him if the plagues of Revelation have yet to unfold. Are they in our immediate future? Are we really the terminal generation as some prominent evangelical leaders are proclaiming? Will you be literally “raptured” off the face of the earth? If so, where does he find that in the Bible?
Ask him if 2 Peter:3 speaks to the literal destruction of the physical earth? If so, how does he reconcile Ecclesiastes claim that the earth will abide forever? Or Christ’s claim that the heavens and earth would pass away but his words would abide forever? Why would his words need to abide forever if the heavens and earth are gone? Was he speaking metaphorically? Did Christ not speak in parables? Is a singular Anti-christ really in our future? Ask him where the Anti-christ or Anti-christ spirits are mentioned in Revelation? In what specific years did John write Revelation?
Ask your pastor if today’s Jews are God’s chosen people. Are Christians under the Abrahamic covenant and a biblical mandate to support them and today’s modern day nation of Israel? If so, do todays Jews and the country of Israel fit the biblical litmus test for ratification? Is Dual Covenant theology (dispensationalism) biblical? Does God really have a separate plan of redemption for Jews and the so-called church?
When you draw your last breath on earth will you go directly to Heaven? Hades? Sheol or Gehenna? Does your church know the difference between the various abodes of the deceased?
Those are just a few of the questions church-going Christians should ask. There are many more. Since Christendom — in addition to shaping many aspects of our culture — heavily influences politics and foreign policy, truth about these and other questions is more vital than ever.
Don’t be a sheep, demand truth over tradition and facts over fiction!
Until next time . . . Wake Up America!

Because the 70 weeks are for the Jews and the Time of the Gentiles is in that time unknowing gap.

Oh. I get it. You have no understanding of what “literal” means to those who believe in the Rapture/dispys. Oh well. No sense in debating a blinded man to what Scripture truly teaches about the End Times. Maybe you will change your mind when Damascus gets totally obliterated because you obviously don’t believe the prophecy of Israel being a nation born in a day (May 14th of 1948)prior to the labor pains (which she is currently in). Sigh…stay behind if you so desire but I’m leaving when Jesus calls me upward.

@Sherry . . . Wrong! Care to try again? Also, you forgot to answer the first part of the question

By all means Sherry, baffle me with your biblical knowledge,in particular your eschatological understanding of the parousia. Since you believe in a “literal” interpretation of allegorical and symbolic language and since the heavens and the earth haven’t yet passed away, are you practicing every aspect of the law and acknowledging both the holy high days and the weekly sabbath?

Hey Kevin, these are all interesting questions. What I prefer to focus my life on is the literal expression of Jesus’ Greatest Commandment…loving God and loving people. To me, this is much more important than wrestling over issues that have divided the “church” for centuries. We need more love, grace and mercy my brother. If we can truly say that we’ve done well in “these” areas today, then we will be living the kind of life that Christ desires for us. Joy and happiness also result when we strive to live in this way. Be joyful…be kind….see 1 Cor. 13…

We have a fellow who attends our church who descibes himself as a super Zionist independant baptist. When confronted he said he didn’t know what it meant, it must have been a mistake or a hacker infiltrating his profile page on Israel insider. Maybe you could explain to me what it is? He has failed to change his profile after about 5 weeks. Or maybe with your extensive insight you could interview him?

Pertaining to Tithing
Read: KJV (King James Version)LUKE 11:42 and Hebrews Chpt. 7:1-10.
We all should come together in love for one another. We could be divided in so many ways if we allow silly things to enter what we each one interpret things to say. We just have to live a good life and learn to love God and each other. This is the one Commandment that will count. We are all Spirit Brothers and Sisters…let us pray for each other and quit the Bible Bashing that so many people desire to do.
I Believe In Christ. He is my Savior and Redeemer. I know he lives and I am so grateful for His sacrifice for YOU and for ME. I love God and Our Lord Jesus Christ. I can never repay Him for His sacrifice for me. As He taught…LOVE ONE ANOTHER AS I HAVE LOVED YOU.

@Shirley: It’s not the Bible that anyone’s bashing, it’s the highly profitable corporate juggernaut otherwise known as “churchianity.”
